Located on beautiful Whidbey Island situated high on a bluff  overlooking the Puget Sound.  this minimalist modern home is designed to achieve optimal privacy and maximize ocean views.   The client, who experienced the destruction of previous wild fires first hand, was insistent on providing a structure that could withstand the forces of nature without sacrificing a modern design aesthetic.  The resulting structure is elevated high above the ground, suspended on massive reinforced concrete frames to allow for unobstructed views and natural ocean breezes.   A garage, outdoor patio and pool occupy the space below the house at grade. The living quarters are distributed over the two stories elevated above and can be accessed by an elevator that services all levels.   The ocean-facing facade features floor to ceiling glass that merges the interior space with the Pacific horizon.    A series of carefully placed balconies and terraces help to reinforce the connection of the high design interior to the natural beauty of the surrounding outdoor environment.
